What is the best CC1350 reference design to use for volume product?

Hello,

I'm starting a volume product that will be broadcasting at both 900MHz and BLE, using the CC1350. I see that there is the CC1350 LaunchPad, the CC1350 SensorTag, and probably a few more. The design will be using PCB trace antenna or chip antennas to reduce space. Which reference design is the most recent and/or would be the best starting point?

Also, how much better performance do you get using an external antenna switch?

- The Launchpad uses differential RF paths both for 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz
- The sensor tag uses single ended RF paths.

Differential gives about 3 dB higher output power and 1 dB better sensitivity compared to single ended but a switch is needed and it required more area.

Which one you should start from is dependent on if performance or space/ cost is the most important.

Hello,

The RF switch used in the CC1350 Launchpad reference design is not available, Murata PN XMSSJE3G0PA-003. Do you know where these are available, or if they are NRND, if there is an equivalent?

The switch is available (www.murata.com/.../xm) but not that east to find on Muratas homepages.

For the switch on the CC1350 we needed:
- Low power consumption
- High frequency range (433 MHz to 2.4 GHz minimum for future LPs)
- Low loss
- Wide voltage range (1.8 V - 3.8 V)

The Murata switch was the best fit I could find for the above.

Thanks, but the link you posted is broken. Is there a datasheet for this part? I didn't see one on Murata's website.
Murata makes good parts but they're a pain in the ass to design in because they aren't in stock. The CC26xx balun (LFB182G45BG5V920) still isn't in stock anywhere, and it's been a year.

Speaking of baluns, if using a differential design then are there any baluns you would recommend for the 915MHz or 2.4GHz side? Would the CC26xx balun mentioned above be suitable?

I think someone from Murata is visiting next week, I'll see if I manage to check the status then. Unfortunately the Murata web pages are not the best.

For CC1350 you can use the CC26xx IPC for the 2.4 GHz path and the Johanson IPC for the 915 MHz path (e2e.ti.com/.../1901591)

Hello,

Following this discussion, I too would be interested if there is any reference design for using the baluns?
The Sub-GHz balun suggested for the cc1310, the 0850BM14E0016 requires the RX/TX connected, where it is not required for the cc26xx (2450BM14G0011), so in terms of connecting them to the cc1350 and the switch, is the RX_TX pin able / required to be connected directly and only to the Sub-GHz balun?

The XMSSJE3G0PA-003 datasheet is not online yet, as I understand it they are doing the last bit of paperwork at the moment.

Check with Johanson - they have baluns for the CC1310 and CC2650 that you may be able to use, and these are in stock. On the Johanson website I found the following:

For the 2.4GHz antenna:
2450BM14G0011

For the 915MHz antenna:
0850BM14E0016

As long as you are ok with the current consumption (should not be an issue if you power it from a DIO) and you are not going lower than 2.3 V this looks like a good alternative.

I was also looking for a suitable and easy to find RF switch and came across this: BGS22WL10E6327XTSA1CT-ND. It should perform similar to Murata part.

It's two reasons why we didn't use the Infinion part on the LP:
- Supply voltage range: It doesn't cover the full range of CC1350
- Power consumption: Fairly high with 120 uA

Looks like XMSSJE3G0PA-003 switches never made it to be available, and no datasheets in sight. Seems like XM0860SR-DL0801 from Murata might be an updated part ?

I have sent a question to Murata why the XMSSJE3G0PA-003 is hard to find on the web page but haven't received an answer so far. From the datasheet it looks like XM0860SR-DL0801 can be used but the insertion loss is larger than for XMSSJE3G0PA-003.
