Doubts about Sub-1GHz

Hello,

I just knew about Sub 1GHz last week and got interested about its long range feature.

Since than I have many bugs in my head but I was not able to find many details about it on web...

First one is related to data protocols that I've being using in existent iot applications. My existent own devices and applications is using MQTT, CoAP, Websocket and recently LWM2M.

Suppose that I will build new Sub-1GHz devices using the CC1310 chip.

1) It would be possible to use those protocols with them ?

2) What kind of changes (devices) would be necessary to make in server machine (on local network) and application in order to receive the data from both existent devices and new sub-1ghz ones?

3) The plan is to use solar harvesting in those new devices and I will use one of BQ25505, BQ25504 or BQ25570. Since those chargers are also boost converters that works in a frequency around 1000Khz, would them cause noise/interference on CC1310 communications ?

I would recommend looking at Contiki OS, its a full 6LowPAN system with its own portable OS. The Github is here:

github.com/.../contiki

This supports all the protocols you mentioned and more.

We have tested and have no issues with running with BQ devices.

Thanks for the suggestion... I will build an experiment with contiki asap...

About the devices... I'm about to order two LAUNCHXL-CC1310 boards. I think that would be easy to make them to connect to each other, right ?

But what about to integrate them to my MQTT server that is inside a LAN. I suppose that I would need a gateway node, right ?

Would be possible to plug a WI-FI module into one LAUNCHXL-CC1310 ? any reference board?

Is the CC1310 the indicated part to be used in a gateway board ? and which wifi IC is recommended ?

How many CC1310 nodes a developed gateway board would support ?

thanks for the suggestion, I will follow it as soon as I receive the LAUNCHXL-CC1310 boards.

But could you help me with the gateway doubt?

I still don't know which board+booster combination would allow me to connect with both wifi and those CC1310 boards at same time in orders to send the received data from sensors to a mqtt service in the local network.

would a combination of LAUNCHXL-CC1310 + CC3100MODBOOST allow me do that ?

or CC110L RF BoosterPack + CC3200-LAUNCHXL ?

or perhaps there is a better combination ?

Hi Cristano,

I see the thread stop at where you asked about the sub-GHz to WiFi gateway. Have you figured out how to make it happen?

I asked the same question recently, and I was provided with this suggestion: "There is no reference design for sub-1 to wifi gateway. You can follow the instructions here:

and use a CC1310EM board instead of the CC2650EM."

I haven't physically implemented the solution. Please let me know if you have other solutions.
