Hi all,

I am trying to find out how to measure SNR for CC1200 in the field. The frequency used is 434MHz. I am trying to measure the SNR to estimate the range and help distribute the transmitter and receivers. I used Friis equation but it is still theoretical. I need more practical way. Should I use portable spectrum analyzer, or what do you think.

You can use SmartRF Studio to measure BER (Bit Error Rate) or PER (Packet Error Rate).

You can use TrxEB + EM or a custom board if you have access to the SPI interface.

also, BER is about the quality of the link. If there is any noise or distortion that will affect BER. It might not give me the right range between the transmitter rand the receiver.

When measuring radiated/ over the air you will always have some noise. Typically this will be background noise caused by other radio traffic. When placing nodes you have to take this into consideration. If you are operating a place without any noise you can place your nodes further apart than in an environment with a lot of noise.
