Linux/cc1310: IPv6

I believe the contiki has 6LoWPAN sniffer: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Contiki_sniffer
and also a 6LBR sniffer: github.com/.../sniffer.c

The reason you cannot see the packets with Ettercap is because the network is on a different band, and you will only see what is coming out of your Ethernet device up to the cloud and back, if you wish to see the rest of the network you will need some sniffer that understands the over the air protocol.

Thank you for your reply. I have checked the link you sent thoroughly, however there is something I am not sure of, do I need anything other hardware in addition to the CC1310 launchpad? because I have seen another post:
sunmaysky.blogspot.ae/.../build-6lowpan-contiki-subg-hz-sniffer.html
where they used another component with the CC1310 launchpad.

You can use LAUNCHXL-CC1310 as HW of sensniff.

Thank you for your answer. I built the sensniff example binary and flashed it on a CC1310 Launchpad. Then I connected it to my laptop and made sure it is connected as a removable device in VMware (Connect to host). and I ran this command: "python sensniff.py -h" without errors. However, when I try to do this step:

•To read captures from /dev/ttyUSB1: python sensniff.py -d /dev/ttyUSB1

I couldn't find the directory in the above step. Any idea on how to read the captures from the sniffer?

I followed the link where I downloaded pyserial in my home directory and installed it, and replaced step 4 with the sensniff example running on my CC1310 Launchpad. However, in step 5 and when I plug in my cc1310, I still can't find the directory.

What directory do you mean to find?

I keep getting this error when I run the following command:

user@instant-contiki:~/sensniff$ python sensniff.py -d /dev/ttyUSB1

Error opening port: /dev/ttyUSB1
The error was: (2, "could not open port /dev/ttyUSB1: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/dev/ttyUSB1'")

Is (/dev/ttyUSB1) a directory that I need to find in order to read the captures from the sniffer?

You should check what tty device your LAUNCHXL-CC1310 enumerated and use it instead of ttyUSB1.

I get these outputs when I run dmesg | grep command, but I don't know which tty the launchpad is connected to.  Is there another command that can show that?

You can disconnect LaunchPad to do “ls /dev” to list device first and connect LaunchPad to do “ls /dev” again to know which one is newly enumerated.

I ran thee command, the changes are circled in blue. I shows that ttyACM0 and ttyACM1 are newly enumerated. However, when I run the command python sensniff.py -d /dev/ttyAC0 or python sensniff.py -d /dev/ttyACM1 instead I still get the same error.

It worked! turns out I have to write sudo before the command.

I did the configuration for wireshark as mentioned in the previous link and when i started a new capture session the above window appears :(

Try to run wireshark as root prevelige.

I'm using Ubuntu on VMware and I already opened wireshark (root)

and I read about ping6 will that help me to capture the data in the air and find out if they're encrypted or not??

Yes I did, but when I run any command it's in this directory:
user@instant-contiki:~/sensniff$
while in the referenced website it's in this one:
user@instant-contiki:~/sensniff/host$
Does that make a difference?

I suppose your sensniff.py should be under ~/sensniff/host so you should run the script under ~/sensniff/host

I realize that but there is no such directory.

You can create the folder and download sensniff.py from github.com/.../sensniff to it.
