CC1110-CC1111: CC1110 output amplitude settings

Part Number: CC1110-CC1111
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101, CC1100, CC1190

For CC1100 and CC1101 you have published design notes, DN012 and DN013, for setting of register 0xDF2E. is there a similar note/table available for CC1110?

I have tested various amplitude settings for CC1110@915MHz and get some large differences from module to module, especially at lower output settings. Tested with both out own module and CC1110 EM.

Regards

Niels

  • Unfortunately we do not have anything like that for CC1110 and you should use settings from SmartRF STudio. If Studio does not provide you with settings for the output powers you need, please let us know and we can probably provide settings for you.

  • The lowest power settings will give variation from sample to sample since the output power is set mainly by the gain in the transistors and the gain has variation. The high output power values will give give a lot less variation since the PA are in saturation. This will always be the case for PAs without feedback or calibration.
  • Thanks for the reply.
I have a setup with a CC1110 and CC1190. I then tested the module with different levels to write an output table for the system and saw some peculiarities with lower output settings - especially with level 0x6E and 0x6F.
My setup is_ SmartRF Studio7-module- spectrum analyzer, CW output. That's why I would like to see what output is expected. My two TI CC1110EM Boards gives -21dBm out with 0x6E, one give below noise floor with 0x6F the other is below noise floor hte other -59dBm.
For all modules I get around expected with register 0xDF2E set to 0.
  • www.ti.com/.../swra151a.pdf is valid also for CC1110 since the exact same PA is used as on CC1101. Using 0x6F the output stage is turned off and the energy out is whatever that leaks through the parasitics in the output stage from the pre drivers.
  • Thanks for a precise description for output setting 0x6F. Any comment to setting 0x6E which I also find quite "undefined", DN006(SWRA151A) estimates output of -64,5dBm. I see a spread between approx. -30 -> -20dBm. Unfortunately we do no have that many modules.

Without having tested all settings I find setting 0 lowest useable setting?

  • Close to the same as for 0x6F. What is the background for looking into these settings, what is the overall objective?
  • We are building a module with CC1110+CC1190. For this module we would write a table with settings for reduced power for costumers who might need this. This could be to avoid overload of input circuit in close located modules. For this reason we tested different settings to see what our possibilities are.
