CC1310: Two identical launchpads, only one recognized

Hello,

Can you help me debug this issue a customer is seeing:

I tried running an example project to debug HS mode and came across this problem with the XDS when my two SmartRF06 Evaluation boards get connected to SmartRF Studio 7.   One of the board  causes the message on the screen – see below.  My other board, purchased at the same time as the first one, runs without the warning. The serial numbers are below.

What could be the problem?

    The heading doesn't reflect the text in the question since they are using CC1310 EMs and not CC1310 launchpads.

    The warning they get (not an error) means what it says: They need to get a new CC1310 EM with a newer version of the chip. The launchpad platform is the development platform used now meaning that they should get that instead of a new EM.

    Hi, I am the Ryan's customer with the problem. We don't want to use new launchpads - we have test versions of our production code that were built around the hardware the evaluation boards provide, we like the versatility of the evaluation boards and we would prefer to continue using them.

    The evaluation boards in question are 3 serial numbers apart - 0x105d5 and 0x105d8, and their revision number is the same - 1.2.2. It is highly unlikely that the boards are different in anything. Do you think there might be another explanation for the warning?

    Are you now referring to the serial code on the SmartRF06 boards? If so: As I wrote this warning is related to the version of CC1310 used on the CC1310 EM you use on the SmartRF06 board. You need new EMs to remove this warning. It should be possible to still use this EM but for your software, do a code export without the EM connected to be sure you get the settings for the newest version of the device. Also update SmartRF Studio if not already done.

    Ok, I see now. Since my cc1310 modules appeared identical (RF studio recognizes them both as Rev 2.0 (Rev A), and on the back of my cc1310 modules stickers show the same revision 1.0.1) I assumed that RF studio reported a problem with the SmartRF06 board. By swapping modules I confirm now that the problem is with one of the modules. Once I dismiss the warning the faulty module seems to work just fine. If I see any problems I will get a replacement. Thanks for help!

    Note that all development on CC1310 should be done on rev B chips since this is the version you get if you order devices now. If you order new you should get the newest version since it's been out for more than a year.
