CC1350: FCC Certification

Part Number: CC1350

Hi Team,

My customer is actively working on certifying their product using the CC1350.

With this, my customer has a couple questions:

1. When going through FCC certification, the test house is requiring a definition of Low, Medium, and High Frequencies – what is recommended for a 915MHz application?

2. Is there a way to turn on and off the modulation through the AT commands in the SimpleLink-EasyLink?

3. Is there a way to turn on and off frequency hopping through the AT commands in the SimpleLink-EasyLink?

Thank you and please let me know if there are any questions.

Regards,

~John

  • 1) It would depend if they intend to use the full band or not. For the full band, min/ max of the 915 MHz band is 902MHz/ 928 MHz

2)/ 3) Do they use an example where the AT commands is available? See processors.wiki.ti.com/.../SimpleLink-EasyLink for documentation of the AT commands that we have implemented.
  • Hi TER,

Thank you for the feedback on 1.

For #2, this is just a confirmation question. They see that those commands aren't in that documentation and wanted to confirm:
With this, there is no way to control the modulation and frequency hopping with the AT commands, correct?

    Regards,
    ~John
  • Hi TER,

Additional follow-up questions from the customer:

-When we turn on long range mode, lab is telling us the following. Are we not supposed to turn on the long range mode?

    (2) Systems using digital modulation techniques may operate in the 902-928 MHz, 2400-2483.5 MHz, and 5725-5850 MHz bands. The minimum 6 dB bandwidth shall be at least 500 kHz.

Your 915MHz radio came in at 204kHz.

If Frequency Hopping is not support by the AT commands, does the radio need to be certified for this? The lab they are using is asking them to be able to turn this feature on/off.

    Regards,

    ~John

  • I assume they want intend to comply with 15.247? Then they either need to use frequency hopping or a modulation that gives 500 kHz bandwidth. For the later, check WB-DSSS, see e2e.ti.com/.../636831

It's up to the certification lab to decide how the device should be certified. It's not clear from the question if it's the AT commands or the hopping that you ask about.
