CC1310: Custom board question

Hi,

I am new to making a custom board, and I am having a problem debugging it. I have successfully used a cc1310 launchpad to debug another cc1310 launchpad, so the connection should be correct. However, when I connect my custom board, CCS reports error.

I checked the voltage on all debugging pins and power pins on CC1310 chip, and they are good. So I am trying to figure out where is the problem.

Here are some of my questions:

1. After soldering the PCB, can I directly debug using ccs?

I don't know if I need to set up the system or load any system image before that step.

2. Is external flash necessary for CC1310 to work?

I removed the external flash part in my design. Is it necessary in that case?

1. No need to download anything. You should be able to debug with CCS.

2. No, external flash is not necessary.

Can you share your schematic, layout and a photo of your actual board?

Most likely this is some kind of connection issue.

You PCB looks a little bit rough. Are you sure everything is soldered right? By the way, if you use Flash Programmer 2, can it recognize your custom CC1310 board?

I cannot have my board recognized in Flash Programmer 2, same as for other launchpads. However, CCS can debug launchpads but fail for my custom board.
I have measured the voltage of VDDR, VDDS and JTAG pins, and they all have voltage reads. So the connection is OK. One thing I notice is that the VDDR and DCDC_SW voltage are 1.675, which is lower than the requirement of 1.7 - 1.95 V. Do you think that is the problem?

Yes, I think that might be the problem and I would suggest you to check if crystal works correctly too.

Looking at the picture I suspect that the soldering could be the issue. Also, I note that U2 is lacking VDD. The XDS110 on the CC1310 LP typically need VDD for the level shifters, see the schematic for the LP.

Only the internal RCOSCs are in use at this stage.
