CC1310: Antenna GND touches to PE

Hello,

In our new design, we will use an aluminium enclosure. After soldering our "CC1310 module" onto the PCB, The uFL to SMA antenna cable will make a connection between the CC1310 module and the external 868MHz antenna.

But the SMA side of the antenna will be touching the conductive aluminium case and uFL side is connected to GND inside the module. So, PE and GND (0V) will be short circuit. Aluminium enclosure will be short circuit to electrical cabinets PE connection.

Can I make a successful wireless communication while GND and PE is short circuit?

The CC1310 launchpad has a balun that will ground-reference the output of the PA before you get to the SMA/Internal antenna selection components. So if you are using the launchpad, you are fine.

If you are using a custom board, as long as you include the balun from the reference design, the output will be ground referenced and you will be fine. If you don't have a balun, you will need to add one.

Hi Onur,

As long as you aluminium case is at the same potential as ground, you should be fine. Of course, from a mechanical point of view, it would be better to make the case such that it does not touch the SMA connector.
