We would follow the WB-DSS instructions (http://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra591/swra591.pdf) and send for FCC approval. Do we get the same range from WB-DSS as we get from 2.5kbps long-range smart rf setting?

Also, there seems to be a hybrid setting that is also FCC compliant and does not require frequency hopping (https://iotblog.org/lora-hybrid-mode-and-fcc/). Any help on how to obtain that setting?

We have not looked into a hybrid solution as outlined in the link. 

You should be able to estimate range using different datarates etc using this: http://www.ti.com/tool/rf-range-estimator

What is the lowest data rate that is achievable using WB-DSSS?
