CC1310: Communication between PCB antenna and chip antenna

Part Number: CC1310

Hello,

We design the custom board using CC1310F128 5x5 chip for our project and our project is working ok

The antenna on our custom board is PCB helical antenna.

The communication between our two custom board is working ok

Now we need to add one more device into our network. but because of size restriction, we cannot design PCB helical antenna on our new device, so we decided to add 868 MHz chip antenna instead of the PCB antenna on our design. so my query is

  1. does chip antenna communicate with PCB helical antenna
  2. do we need to consider any design parameters while designing custom board with chip antenna so it communicates with PCB helical antenna
  3. does chip antenna effect on communication range

  • Hi Nikhil,

As long as the antenna is designed for operation at the right frequency, you can use which ever type of antenna you want. Any antenna, chip, PCB, other types, must be properly impedance match to the 50 ohm output of the CC1310 RF matching. Range is affected by the antenna depending on its gain. This is similar for all antennas.
