LAUNCHXL-CC1352R1: Smart RF Packet Sniffer

Hello,

1. To confirm, has your device been flashed with the sniffer firmware? Otherwise your device will not be detected when you click the 'Detect Devices' button in the SmartRF Sniffer Agent. Assuming you installed SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2 in it default location, you can find the sniffer firmware binaries at: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2\sniffer_fw\bin\cc1352r1lp"
2. Can you confirm that your device can be detected in a non-VM environment (if you have access to a non-VM Windows 10 environment)?

Hi Michael,

1. Yes, green LED flashing;

2. I can't test with a physical Windows computer, but I have connected to the serial port from a Mac, and I see the expected text output from the device.

The Packet Sniffer software does not list any available COM ports in the UI.

Couple of additional follow-up questions to further debug the issue:

1. What version of SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2 are you using?
2. What is the hardware revision on your CC1352R1 launchpad?

The software will only list the COM port as available if it can detect the sniffer firmware running on the device. If Windows can detect the COM port of your launchpad in the VM, and other TI tools work as intended, perhaps there is some issue with the sniffer setup (e.g. hardware revision incompatibility with the latest firmware).

Okay, I think that explains the issue. You will need to use SmartRF Packet Sniffer version 1.6.0 or earlier if you have a Rev B board. You can download version 1.6.0 at https://www.ti.com/tool/download/PACKET-SNIFFER-2/1.6.0, or choose any of the prior versions on the version history section.

Just to be sure we're on the same page, this LP has the Rev. E release version of the CC1352...

is the source available somewhere for the packet sniffer FW? I would like to try lowering the baud rate as a test to eliminate that possibility.

You can find the sniffer FW source code in the installation directory. The default location on Windows should be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2\sniffer_fw". The project/workspace files are located in the 'ide' directory where you can load the projects in your development environment.
