CC1312R: External amplifier for improved receive sensativity

Part Number: CC1312R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1310, CC1190,

Hello.

My company has developed a device and application using the CC1312. We are looking to increase the receive sensitivity as much as possible by adding an external amplifier.

1. Can the CC1190 be fully utilized with the CC1312? Note that the CC1310 is not an option due to other hardware constraints.

2. Is there an alternative front end amplifier that is designed for the CC1312?

3. Are there any other suggestions for increasing receive sensitivity for this SoC other than an external amplifier or larger antenna?

Thank you in advance!

  • Hi,

    1. Yes, you can use CC1312R with CC1190 the same way as CC1310 is used together with CC1190 in this design: http://www.ti.com/tool/LAUNCHXL-CC13-90. That design can be used as-is, except the DCDC components and xtals is different between CC1310 ad CC1312R and has to be changed accordingly. The RF front-end can be used as-is.

    2. Not designed specifically, but it is possible to use CC1312R with other front end modules.

    3. What RF PHY are you using? If you don't require high data rate, you can reduce the RX BW and that way achieve better sensitivity. Please have a look at our SimpleLink Long Ranges mode in SmartRF Studio.

  • Simon, thanks for the quick response.

    1. Excellent, we will most likely go this route.

    2. Could you suggest any alternative well-suited front-end modules?

    3. Can I DM you regarding our PHY layer? I'd rather not disclose specific details on here.

    Thank you!

  • Hi,

Let's follow up the PHY discussion over DM.
