CC1125EM-CAT1-868RD: CC1125 SMART RF SNIFFER WM-BUS

Part Number: CC1125EM-CAT1-868RD

Hi everyone,

We need to configurate the CC1125EM Cat1 for use it with the Smart RF Studio 7 how sniffer of1524.Suggested settings for WMBUS T mode.pdf a system WMBUS mode T1/T2.

We are following the configuration registers recommended from the wiki:

https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:WMBUS#Suggested_WMBUS_settings_for_CC1125_40_MHz and from the pdf attached.

We have configurated the smart RF Studio 7 en Packet RX.

Somebody could help us with the correct configuration?, Dont sniffer any frame form the meters.

Thanks in advance

Bes Regards

Lorenzo

  • It's not clear from your description: Do you receive something when the meter is sending?

Note that SmartRF Studio is not able to to 3-6 decoding. You should be able to receive something when the meter is sending since you should be able to see the sync word but you have to do decoding manually to get a frame.

  • Hi Ter,

We don´t receivd nothing. We have 5 meters sending periodically ever 10 seconds.

I only need see the frame, in HEX, don´t need decode the payload.

The meters are in T-2 mode. We have configurated the preamble in 55 55 and the word in 54 3D, but in the smart RF don´t see anything.

    Thanks

  • A couple of basic tests:

    - Do you see the RSSI increase (if you use cont RX) when the meters are sending?

    - Do you receive something if you set the sync word to 0xAAAA?

  • Hi TER,

We have tried to change the preamble to AA (PREAMBLE_WORD 00) but we dont receive nothing.

The RX don´t count any frame.

By the way, we have checked the EVK CC1125 with another applicatication that we have developed with this radio and it is OK.

We change the number of bytes of preamble, changing from 0 to 6 (NUM_PREAMBLE) and nothing.

With a USB Stick that we have of the other manufacturer, we have checked that the meters are sending in  modeT1, and the Frame received are correct. In this USB sticker we don´t could see the configuration of the radio.

We want to use the CC125 radio because we have another product with this radio, and the developments are done.

We attached the last configurations that we try.

    Thanks for the support.

    Lorenzo

  • The main parameters in the .xml file looks correct. Unfortunately I don't have a meter or anything I know is outputting T1/ T2 frames to test the setup with.

I don't believe the following were answered:

    - Do you see the RSSI increase (if you use cont RX) when the meters are sending?

    - Do you receive something if you set the sync word to 0xAAAA?

In addition, could you try to turn off carrier sense?

  • Hi TER,

    - Do you see the RSSI increase (if you use cont RX) when the meters are sending?

    No,

    - Do you receive something if you set the sync word to 0xAAAA?

No, I try to change de pramble to AA and changing the number of bytes of the preamble without any result.

In addition, could you try to turn off carrier sense?

I try to turn off the carrier sense (MDMCFG1 --> CARRIER_SENSE_GATE = 0), AND NOTHING

    Best regards

    Lorenzo

  • The image is missing. Note that the RSSI graph in SmartRF Studio may not be able to register one packet sent due to the update rate. You should be able to see a change in RSSI regardless of settings as long as you are covering the frequency of interest.

  • Hi TER,

    I attached a image form my SmartRF7.

    Best Regards

  • What I asked for was if you saw a difference in RSSI if you select the cont RX tab (you are now using the Packet RX tab)

  • Hi TER,

Sorry, in Cotinuos RX tab don´t see any signal.

  • You should have seen a graph moving and continuously updating. Not sure why you are not seeing anything. Is that the case if you don't change any parameter and just select one of the predefined settings?

Also check the BW of the SAW filter on CC1125EM Cat1 to verify that this doesn't filter out the signal.

  • I generate another configuration from new, and now i´m receiving frames:

Is normal that the smartRF prit the preamble?

The CRC error is caused because are in 3 -6 codification, not supported for the SmartRF?

    Thanks for alll

  • SmartRF Studio is not able to handle wmbus frames.

It looks like you are not actually not finding the sync worm, most of the frames you receive contain the sync word.

  • Hi TER,

    It´s working fine!!

I´ve decoded the frames and they are correct.

    Thanks for the support!
