WL1835MOD: Bluetopia communication questions

Part Number: WL1835MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1835

Hello,

customer use Bluetopia SDK “AM335xBluetopiaLinuxProduction-4.2.1.1.1.0” with init script “TIInit_11.8.32BT4.2.bts” from “WL18xx BT Service Pack 4.7”.

It is not clear what is send to the device (could only see memory and register calls which don’t explain how the chip is set up). They use Bluetooth classic communication, no LE and Class 2 power level. They couldn't find any information about the initial configuration.

Beside this they want to know how the power vectors are set and are they set to Class 2.

Regards, Holger

  • Hi Holger,

The init script (.bts file) uses several HCI commands to communicate with the Bluetooth transceiver in the WiLink device. You can view the .bts with our wireless tools.

Power vectors can be modified with a Vendor Specific HCI command. Please see HCI_VS_DRPb_Set_Class2_Single_Power (0xFD87) in the WiLink 8 VS HCI Commands User Guide.

    Thanks,

    Jacob

  • Hello Jacob,

where to find a function in bluetopia SW to change/configure the modulation in standard operation mode. Following HCI commands for modulation options are found:

    CW
    BT BR (GFSK)
    BT EDR 2MB (π/4-DQPSK)
    BT EDR 3MB (8-DPSK)
    BT LE (BLE, GFSK)
    ANT (GFSK)

How to know which option is used when the communication is setup?
Is there a way to know which modulation is used?

Customer wants to use the fastest option “BT EDR 3MB (8-DPSK)”. They have logfiles which can be around 32MB and this will take a while when downloading them using Bluetooth.

Does the WL1835 change its modulation type underwater automatically by looking at the signal quality or can we modify this that it will only use “BT EDR 3MB (8-DPSK)” modulation?

    Regards, Holger

  • Hello Holger,

How to know which option is used when the communication is setup?

I do not think it is possible to query the modulation used during communication setup. However, the customer can specify the modulation using the HCI_VS_DRPb_Set_Power_Vector (0xFD82) command (from the VS HCI guide).

Does the WL1835 change its modulation type underwater automatically by looking at the signal quality or can we modify this that it will only use “BT EDR 3MB (8-DPSK)” modulation?

I think you can specify the output power to use a certain modulation type using the HCI command above. I do not think it changes its signal type automatically.

    Thanks,
    Jacob
