WL1831MOD: Debug mode permanently activated

Part Number: WL1831MOD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1831

Hello all,

We have an equipment issue on several cards where the WL1831MOD has its WLAN IRQ pull-up equipped (was supposed to be "not installed").

So the WL1831MOD is running permanently in debug mode and not in the operational mode we expected.

No major issue has been reported so far but what would be the side effects of such configuration : no impact ? only functional (and if so, in which area) ? long term reliability ?

Does anyone have any experience to share about this configuration ?

With many thanks for any support you could provide.

Best regards

Thomas

  • Hi,

As you have mentioned ,  one of the requirements to put WiLink8 in debug mode is pull up on WLAN_IRQ.

    debug mode: IRQ_WL = 1, UART_DBG_BT = 1, AUD_OUT_BT = 0

For normal operational mode, you will need to disconnect external pull up on WLAN_IRQ

    operational mode:  IRQ_WL = 0, UART_DBG_BT = 1, AUD_OUT_BT = 0

  • Hi Saurabh,

Yes I understand what needs to be done to get back to operational mode. But my question is rather : will the WL1831 operate correctly if it is kept in debug mode ? Is it OK to stay in debug bug to run WIFI & BT applications ?

    Thank you,

    Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

Our recommendation is to put WiLink8 in operational mode for normal operation. Our testing is done in this mode.

We can't  comment on what to expect if device is in debug mode during normal operation since we enable debug mode only for applications such as RTTT.
