WIFI module comparing with OMAP4460

Hi Champ,

I am asking for my customer. Sorry for that, I am not familiar with WIFI solution.

The customer is still using OMAP4460 with kernel 3.4.56.

Since they would need to evaluate a new WIFI Module due to the previous WIFI module no longer production.

Therefore, customers wants to know what level of WIFI module could be compared with OMAP4460 with kernel 3.4.56, so that the products can continue to be sold for 2~3 years ?

Not sure what we can really recommend here since customer is running a very old version of linux kernel and MPU. Customer can try looking into WiLink8 : https://www.ti.com/wireless-connectivity/wi-fi/products.html#p2792=External%20MPU . WiLink8 WiFi needs SDIO interface and BT uses UART. Since the kernel is very old, customer might have to to backport WiLink8 driver to this kernel version

Do you mean the customer could still use the WiLink8 driver with kernel 3.4.56 ? What version of WiLink8 driver do you suggest ?

I only see R8.8 and R8.7SP3 from https://www.ti.com/tool/WILINK8-WIFI-NLCP#downloads. Would one of those be satisfy ?

If I misunderstanding, would you kindly show me where is it ?

Hi,

We can't comment if WL18xx will work with OMAP4 on an old kernel version.

Kernel 3.4 is 10+ years old , and in-tree wilink8 kernel driver may not function as expected.
