WL1831MOD: Interpreting Temperature Ratings and High Temp Control Mechanism

Part Number: WL1831MOD

Hey Wi-Fi team,

I have a customer working with the WL1831MOD on a project and during testing the device temp was slightly over 78 degC. Taking into account the device datasheet we have a few questions:

  • According to the Absolute Max Ratings table, the Max ambient temp supported is 70C. Are there any concerns with measuring a device temp of ~78C?
  • In the footnote of the AMR table, it mentions a control mechanism is in place to manage the transmitter patterns and ensure the junction temp remains less than 125C. What is the impact of this control mechanism from a performance and functional perspective?
  • How does time come into play on these temperature specs? Are there longevity or reliability issues when operating the device with Tj near 125C?

Any guidance you can provide here would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards,

Matt Calvo
