BP-CC3301: Failure in Connecting BP3301+BBB to 2.4G WiFi Hotspot

Part Number: BP-CC3301

Hi Support Team,

I am reaching out for support regarding a persistent issue I have been experiencing with connecting the BP3301 to one of our company's hotspots. This has been consistently unsuccessful, despite utilizing the wpa_supplicant tool for this process. Interestingly, this same method has proven effective for connecting to other hotspots.

The version of BBB firmware that we are using is 0.4.2.0. Could you kindly assist us in analyzing and identifying the root cause of this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please find the relevant log files attached for your reference.

Best Regards,

Aaron

This is a packet captured by Omnipeek, the SSID of the hotspot is TTC

  • Hi,

The sniffer file cannot be opened. Are you sure this is Omnipeek file? I would expect something like .pkt.

As for the issue, seems like it cannot go beyond authentication. What is this hotspot? can you share the hotspot configuration?

  • Hi Shlomi,

My sincerest apologies for the confusion caused. As I am still getting used to using E2E, I mistakenly uploaded the wrong file previously.

I have now re-uploaded a .zip file. Please extract it to obtain the required .pkt file. Regarding the configuration of the router, I will need to enlist the assistance of my colleague to be able to provide that information to you.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    Best Regards,

    Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

No need to explore further as I know what the root cause is.

Seems like your hotspot is configured to WPA/WPA2 mixed mode which means that the AP allows either TKIP/AES for pairwise key but only TKIP for group key. Since CC33xx currently does not support TKIP, it fails right after the Authentication phase and doesn't even get to the association phase. I double checked it on my side.

We are planning to fix it by adding support going forward but I don't have the schedule yet.

For now, the only way is to disable mixed mode on the hotspot.

    Regards,

    Shlomi

  • Hi  Shlomi,

We greatly appreciate the help that we have received.

Moving forward, we kindly request to be notified of any future firmware updates.

    Best Regards,

    Aaron
