CC3301: High temperature radio degradation

Part Number: CC3301

Hello,

My name is Simeon Aleksandrov, I am an EP FAE intern in TI Garching. Nice to meet you!

I was looking over the CC330x Datasheet and I was interested to know more about the operating ambient temperature. Please see the image below:

Would it be possible to elaborate on the WLAN/BLE performance at temperatures >85C? What is the performance decline that should be expected here?

Looking forward to your feedback!

Best Regards,

Simeon Aleksandrov

  • Hey Simeon,

Any specs in the tables related to RF parameters - labeled with BLE or WLAN - can be degraded at higher temps.

  • Hi Dylan,

Thanks for the reply here, kindly help me understand the problem further!

Is there any app note showcasing the possible degradation to these RF parameters? I am aware that higher temperatures can lead to problems with the PA and RF switches.

Would it be possible to show any expected numbers from our side here?

Please find one specific question that comes to my mind below:

    • Can we still go up to 50Mbps throughput @ 125C but unable to go up to 20dBm amplification?
      • Can we still reach 20dBm with higher current consumption due to higher losses in the PA?

    Looking forward to your input!

    Best Regards,

    Simeon Aleksandrov

  • Hi Simeon,

There are no app notes that provide info on this. Its likely 50 Mbps can be achieved depending on the range and environment. Max power of 20 dBm, will likely not be achieved, but I cant provide an estimate number.
