Hi,

We are presently developing the CC3220MODASF LaunchPad, a SimpleLink WiFi module. We need to incorporate BLE functionality into the MCU. Can you recommend a BLE transceiver for this purpose? We prefer not to add another BLE MCU for this task.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out! The best BLE transceiver that we offer for this would be our new device the CC3301 (https://www.ti.com/product/CC3301#support-training) which can be used with a Linux host device. Please note that the CC3301 is a transceiver supports Wi-Fi (up to Wi-Fi 6) and BLE. It could be worth considering using the CC3301 with a host in replacement of the CC3220.

If you intend to keep the CC3220 in the design then please note that in order to use it as a host the CC3301 driver would need to be ported to the CC3220.

Hi,

You mentioned that the CC3301 has WiFi and BLE. We only require a BLE application to configure parameters other than the WiFi SSID and password. Is there a BLE transceiver that can easily integrate with the CC3220?

The CC3301 can be used as a bluetooth only transceiver if you don't enable Wi-Fi. The other option we have is the CC2464 (https://www.ti.com/product/CC2564#product-details) which is a bluetooth only transceiver, however it is a less cost effective option than the CC3301.

Hi,

I believe cc2564 has a UART interface. Are there any BLE modules that offer interfaces other than UART, like SPI or I2C? We require alternatives as all UART pins on our MCU are presently in use.

Other than the CC3301, all our other modules also utilize UART. The CC3301 I mentioned previously can use UART or SDIO interfaces for BLE.

Alternatively you could use another MCU device like the CC2340 (https://www.ti.com/product/CC2340R5) and then communicate between them using SPI or have them work independently dependent on your use case.

Hi,

We want to keep the CC3220. Can you share CC3301 driver and give guidance on how to port it to CC3220? Can I connect CC3301 to CC3220 via SDIO port?

I add one more piece of information:
cc3220 only supports SD; there is no example for SDIO on the cc3220. I believe SD and SDIO are different. How can I integrate cc3301 via SDIO?
