CC3220SF-LAUNCHXL: Can CC3220SF function as client and server at the same time?

Part Number: CC3220SF-LAUNCHXL

Tool/software:

Hi,

I would like to know if CC3220SF can function as client and server at the same time?

  • Hi,

If you talk about TCP/UDP server and TCP/UDP client that answer is yes, no problem. But if you talk about WiFi AP mode and STA mode at same moment, that this is not supported.

  • If CC3200SF functions as station mode, does it work like a server?  Can other CC3220SF connect to it and send data like a sensor network?

From what I know CC3220SF needs to connect to WiFi router to communicate with other CC3220SF.

  • Hi,

I think you are connecting two slightly different things. WiFi mode and IP sockets.

    • IP sockets are same for any IP network (WiFi or Ethernet). CC3220 supports up to 16 sockets (TCP or UDP) and these sockets can be client or server sockets.
    • WiFi mode in term of CC3220 is STA (WiFi client) and AP mode (WiFi access point) which support up to four connected client at some moment. That mean that you can connect four CC3220 at STA mode to one CC3220 at AP mode. ut I would not recommend such approach at real applications. Because at AP mode CC3220 does not use WiFi power-save modes.

Application like sensors network like requires mesh network. This network can be implemented by transceiver mode by CC3220. But there is no direct support for such approach from TI side. From the past I remember some e2e user which implemented mesh network at previous generation of devices CC3220. But I think there are better wireless technologies for mesh networks like Thread, Matter, ZigBee...
