BP-CC3301: Getting started and secure boot example

Part Number: BP-CC3301
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3301

Tool/software:

When I connect my board to a mac, all sorts of LEDs light up, but when I connect the board to a windows laptop only one light is there and it's red.

I'm assuming that this is a driver issue. Can you point me to a lab where instructions are given on how to resolve this issue? I already have your development toolkit installed on the windows machine. can you point me to a getting started lab?

I also want to see how secure boot works on the device, it would be great if you could point me to a related lab.

  • Hi Shikha,

I would like to confirm some details first. Ensure that you have the most up to date SimpleLink WIFI toolbox downloaded. The WIFI-toolbox user guide can be found under the docs folder of the SimpleLink WIFI toolbox. The toolbox is supported for windows and the CC3301 can be controlled from the WIFI toolbox.

Also, which version of the BPCC3301 are you using? Please send a picture of your BP so I can verify.

    BR,

    Christina

  • Hi Christina,

Thanks a lot for replying. I have the toolbox installed, but when I connect my board to my laptop it just shows a red light. I've also attached the photo of the device. Please let me know if there's a lab for a blinky example that I can run using the toolbox. Also if there's an example of secure boot I can run.

  • Hi Shikha,
Thank you for the picture. Please ensure you are using a 5V 3A for the power source. The LED issue is due to the power supply being insufficient. If possible, could you share with me what the main purpose of your setup is? The toolbox will work if connected to the BP but not when connected to the AM24x as it communicates through XDS110.

Our firmware and hardware are signed such only TI firmware can be used, so every demo for the CC3301 will boot securely using TI firmware. We don't have demo specifically for it. You can use the network terminal demo for the AM24x.

  • Hi Christina,

I was looking at the app note and it says secure boot means that it'll verify that all the firmware is signed by TI. Is there a feature which supports a user signing their application with a key and making sure only the signed images can be run on the board, like this app note Secure Boot in SimpleLinkTm CC13x2/CC26x2 Wireless MCUs

  • Hi Shikha,

Since our CC3301 device is a transceiver, we only support TI signed firmware. We do this to ensure the firmware is intended for this specific device. To gain a bit more context, could you share with me the purpose of your setup?

    BR,

    Christina
