WL1271 bluetooth sound over HCI: very bad quality

Hello,

I'm routing SCO of WL1271 over HCI both in blueZ as well as WL1271. I've leveraged this post "wl1271 bluetooth configuration: audio routing" for the WL1271 configuration:

Both on Ubuntu and Android, it's working but the sound is quasi inaudible, unrecognizable. Quality is extremely bad. It's like if so many packets were lost. We have tried with multiple headsets and it's working fine over PCM.

At this point, unless we are missing a magic register, we are questioning the firmware (TIInit_7.2.31.bts). Has anyone encountered this problem? Any idea, hint, patch, fix, solution?

Hi Grégoire,

Routing SCO information over UART (HCI) will not work, it will have a poor quality and there is no way that we are familiar with to fix that.

Thanks for the answer. According to the many posts you wrote on WL1271, I guess that you are working inside TI on this chip, meaning that your expertise is accurate. Could you please explain a little bit why the quality is not god and can NOT be improved? Is it a hardware limitation in the chip, or a firmware problem that has never been addressed? I'm trying to understand a little bit more why in order to be convinced that it's not fixable,

Gregoire,

Voice over HCI is not recommended due to possible latency issues. In fact, we do not support this feature.

Dear Miguel-san,

Our engineer are facing the same problem on WL1273.

Our device has installed Windows CE 6.0.

I want to confirm you Gregoire-san's question as follows;

Is it a hardware limitation in the chip, or a firmware problem that has never been addressed?

Hi Tatsuya-San,

It could be many things. From the WL1273 chip perspective, this functionality is not supported.
