CC2564MODA: Withdrawn Bluetooth SIG QDID and / or DN

Part Number: CC2564MODA
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2564C

Tool/software:

I have submitted the CC2564MODA QDID  and DID/DN to the Bluetooth SIG as part of product declaration.  The Bluetooth SIG has replied:

"Additionally, please be aware that the QDIDs for the (Referenced Products) have been withdrawn. As a result, you will not be able to use or reference a withdrawn QDID or DN. If you wish to proceed with qualifying these products, I recommend inquiring with your module supplier for updated QDIDs or DNs that are still valid."

The datasheet contains QDID 64631, which is what I submitted.  I also submitted DID /  DN DO24698 from the Bluetooth SIG Product database.

Please advise /  provide the current active QDID and / or DN for the CC2564MODA so I can update my report for the Bluetooth SIG.

Thanks, Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Unfortunately, the BT Sig has deprecated the specification the CC2564MODA device is qualified upto. Thus you cannot use this device for new products and get qualified by the bt sig. We do have the CC2564C which is pin to pin compatible with the cc2564B (which is whats inside the MODA) that is certified to the 5.1 BT spec which will qualify new designs. Unfortunately TI does not create a Module for it but there is 3rd party partners such as BDE and Panasonic that create a module.

  • Thanks Rogelio.  The CC2564MODA was designed into 2 of our products a few years ago.  I was trying to update our BT SIG report when they flagged the QDID issue.  I checked out both Panasonic and BDE.  BDE may possibly have a BT 5.1 module that is functionally, electronically and mechanically compatible (the BD2564CA).  We're checking it out in detail.  Thanks again for your support.

  • Anytime

This will probably be helpful if you do decide to go upgrade to the CC2564C

  • Hi Rogelio.  Moving forward the CC2564C looks good but my issue is reporting to the BT SIG wrt our products that use the CC2564MODA.  The BT SIG stated they withdrew the CC2564MODA but didn't say why.  The CC2564MODA is shown as "Active" on TI's product page yet it's apparently not a qualified device.  Additionally, the BT SIG did comment on subtle options "Additionally, we understand that you will be inquiring with your supplier regarding updated Bluetooth modules for the withdrawn QDID 64631. Please note that QDID 64631 pertains to a Controller Subsystem, which represents the hardware portion of a complete Bluetooth® stack and is intended to be combined with a Host Subsystem (the software portion). If your supplier provides an updated Controller Subsystem QDID, please also ask if they have an updated complementary Host Subsystem QDID for these products."  I assume there isn't an updated Controller Subsystem QDID but is there a Host Subsystem QDID that I may use for reporting purposes?  Otherwise, it seems I have no options but to declare our products using the CC2564MODA as non-qualified and remove all "Bluetooth" references in the marketing materials, on the product, manuals, brochures, literature, etc.  We'd rather not do this. Please advise.  Thanks.  Steve

  • Hi Steve,

There are 3 certification you need for BT Sig

    Controller Subsystem

    Host Subsystem (Bluetooth Stack)

    Profile Subsystem (Bluetooth profiles)

The CC2564MODA no longer qualifies for new designs as it can only support up to a specification that has been withdrawn by the BT Sig last February. Unfortunately there is no way to get this chip updated due to hardware limitations of the chips design. Which is why the CC2564C was created which is qualified to the 5.1 spec which there is not a deprecation date for yet.

We also offer the Bluetopia Bluetooth stack for our customers. It has also been qualified to the 5.1 spec.

which is what they mean by the host subsystem.

TLDR: The MODA cannot be qualified for new Designs, older designs should be grandfathered in. The CC2564C can be qualified for new designs but TI does not create a module for it (There is 3rd party partners that make it). Yes we have both the Controller and Host subsystem qualification for ease of certification.

    Rogelio

  • Hi Rogelio.  What catches my attention is "older designs should be grandfathered in."  Any suggestions on how to achieve this?  This seems fair to me as the CC2564MODA was qualified for the then present SIG spec that was active when the products were designed and released.  Our respective products have been in production for 5 years.

  • Do you already have a listing for these older products?  Or are you just now trying to get one?

  • Unfortunately, they were not previously listed with the SIG.  We are now trying to do so.

  • That's a new listing, which you can't get with an old controller.  Grandfathered designs means they won't cancel your listing.  It doesn't mean you can get a new listing just because the design was completed at a time when it was still possible to get one.

  • Thanks Dean.  Sounds like our only option is to "sterilize" our respective marketing and products of "Bluetooth".  Time to beg for forgiveness.
