WL1837MOD: Connection priority on 5GHz band

Hello expert,

Our customer has the following question.

■ Background
The AP (WL1837MOD) is set to connect both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band,

We would like to lead connecting by the 5 GHz band when 2.4 GHz band is congested.

Ultimately, we want to be able to connect with the frequency band and channel as specified.

For example, when we enabled only 36 to 44 channels at 5GHz , we hope the connection channel should be between 36 and 44 channels.

■ Question
When the AP (WL1837MOD) can connect to both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands,

We set the STA (WL1837MOD) channel restricted to ch36 to 48 channels by using the sl_WlanSet function.

However, it seems to connect in 2.4GHz band instead of connecting in ch36 to 48ch.

Could you advise what kind of settings and procedures are required to connect to the 5GHz band first?

Hi Akihiko,

You should be able to connect to an AP by BSSID rather than only SSID. So when you issue a scan, you can see which BSSIDs and SSIDs are on which frequency. You can think write some simple search to find the BSSID on the 5GHz channels. Then, connect to the BSSID on the 5GHz frequency.

I will tell to try with BSSID, but why it will connect to 2.4GHz even though STA channel restricted to ch36 to 48 ?

Hi Akihiko,

Perhaps the RSSI is better on the 2.4GHz channels. What do you mean by STA channels are restricted?
