CC3135MOD: AP scan in STA mode

Part Number: CC3135MOD

Tool/software:

Hi team,

My customer is asking whether during AP scanning in STA mode, does the CC3135MOD emit radio waves(active) or only receive radio waves in passive operation?

I think there are two patterns of wireless LAN connection procedure between WLAN terminal and AP, but the question is whether it will be 1 or 2 when scanning AP.
1. Passive scanning
Receive beacon frames broadcast from the AP to verify the ESSID and move to the Authentication phase.
2. Active scan
If the WLAN device does not receive a beacon from the AP for a certain period of time, it sends the information of the ESSID to which it wants to connect in a probe request and receives the response from the AP, then the Authenticaion phase proceeds.

Best regards,

Kenley

  • Hi Kenley,

I'm very sorry for my late response here.
In short, an active scan is being done by sending a probe request to nearby APs (by the STA), and receiving probe responses (from the APs).
A passive scan is being done not by sending any probe requests, but by listening to the beacons of any nearby AP.

Let me know if this answers your question.

    Best regards,
    Omri
