WL1807MOD: WL1807 firmware Rev 8.9.1.0.2 regressions

Part Number: WL1807MOD

Tool/software:

Hi. We have been using firmware Rev 8.9.1.0.0 with fairly good results, but when updating to Rev 8.9.1.0.2 we see all kinds of strange problems. This is with kernel 5.15 - both with TI as well as proper upstream fixes which are included in kernel 6.11+. This includes slow connections, warnings about corrupt packages etc. Are you planning to release an updated firmware?

Rev 8.9.1.0.1 is apparently not published even though it is mentioned in changelog, so we cannot test if problems were introduced with that one, or later.

Also please observe that there are two versions of Rev 8.9.1.0.2 (!); we are using the second one.

  • Hi Peter,

Could you please explain in details what kind of issues you are experiencing? Is it very reproduceable with either FW, and you consistently see regression with the latest FW?

Please also stick to one of the kernel versions as it is very dependent.

  • 1. Mesh connections takes a long time to establish.

    2. We have seen this kind of errors:

[ 48.490268] wlcore: WARNING CONFIGURE command NOK

[ 48.497434] wlcore: WARNING acx set inconnaction sta failed: -5

[ 48.510159] wlcore: Hardware recovery in progress. FW ver: Rev 8.9.1.0.2

    3. Report from a tester:

"In my mesh, 13 units, the new firmware has after a weekend started to show large drops of data. Local names where able to be resolved, but pings where not working on some links."

Problems were verified 1 year ago, and also now again. We are using NXP kernel 5.15.71, and the problem has been verified both with your patches for 4.19, as well as the 6.11+ patches.

Can you provide 8.9.1.0.1 so that we can check if problems were introduced in 8.9.1.0.1 or 8.9.1.0.2?

  • Hi Peter,

We can not provide 8.9.1.0.1 FW as this was not a public release.

In order to get 8.9.1.0.2 FW you will need to apply the same 4.19 patches on top of 5.15. Did you apply the patches on top of 5.15?

Can you also provide the make and model of the mesh router? Are you using mesh mode on the WL18xx yourself or just configuring it as a station?

  • Ok. Yes, we apply the patches on top of 5.15. It works fine with 8.9.1.0.0 firmware; we have thousands of devices deployed with that firmware.

We are not using any other mesh router; it is a mesh between wl18xx devices.
