CC3301: C Tuning of CC3301

Part Number: CC3301

Tool/software:

Hi,

We attempted C-Tuning for channel tuning of the CC3301 chipset using the TI SimpleLink Wi-Fi Toolbox. However, we encountered the following limitations:

  • The default tuning option in the RadioTool settings offers a tuning step size/resolution of 250 kHz (temporary) only.
  • Our requirement is to tune the channel shift to within 45 kHz, while the customer specification requires a maximum shift of 10 kHz. This level of precision could not be achieved with the current available tuning resolution.

We also explored tuning through the INI File Composer, but it did not yield the desired results either.

For more in-depth tuning through firmware, we downloaded the TI SDK for CC3301. However:

  • The SDK is installable only on Ubuntu, and specifically requires Ubuntu 18.04, which is not available in our current setup.
  • The SDK is not compatible with Windows, which further limits our options.

Due to these constraints, for the CC3301, precise tuning has not been possible so far.

Please let us know if there are any recommended approaches, tools, or updated SDK versions that could help us achieve finer tuning on the CC3301 platform.

Regards,

Dhanya

  • Hi Dhanya,

Sorry to hear about your struggles with accessing the SDK for our device. We do have a Windows version of our SDK which can be downloaded here. From there, you can use our Simplelink Wi-Fi Toolbox Radio Tool GUI to tune channels for CC3301. Our GUI is the simplest/easiest way to test RF performance. However, more information on doing this through command line, can be found in our "docs" folder which includes guides to help you through your analysis.

    Hopefully this helps.

    Best,

    Josh
