CC3551E: Hardware Design Clarifications for CC3551ENJARSHR – Power, Antenna, and Bootloader Queries

Part Number: CC3551E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3551, LP-EM-CC35X1,

Tool/software:

Dear TI Experts,

Greetings of the day!

We are currently developing a custom hardware solution based on the CC3551ENJARSHR and would appreciate your guidance on the following points:

1. Dual Power Supply Management (1.8V & 3.3V)

As per the datasheet, the device requires both 1.8V and 3.3V supplies to support the core and interface blocks. However, our end customer will only provide a single 3.3V input externally.

To address this, we plan to generate the 1.8V rail internally using a fixed-output LDO.

  • VIO1, VIO2, and VPA will be connected directly to 3.3V.

  • All core logic and interfaces (i.e. VDDSF) will be powered via the LDO - 1.8V.

Could you please confirm the recommended output current rating of the 1.8V LDO to ensure reliable operation of the CC3551?

2. Antenna Selection Guidelines

We are considering either an SMD antenna or a PCB trace antenna, depending on what provides the best trade-off in terms of performance, cost, and compactness.

Could you please suggest the recommended antenna type for optimal balance in RF performance vs cost vs size, particularly for a space-constrained design?

3. Backdoor/Bootloader Entry (UART)

We would like to confirm the default backdoor/bootloader entry pin configuration on a fresh/factory CC3551 IC (i.e., out-of-the-box, before any user firmware is flashed - default bootloader UART pins & backdoor pin).

Please confirm the default bootloader UART port, bootloader/backdoor pin number and logic level required to enable bootloader mode over UART.

4. UART-Based Production Programming Support

We are planning to enable UART-based production programming.

Please share details or references to the recommended UART programming process, including any TI-supplied scripts/tools that can streamline production flashing.

Looking forward to your expert inputs to proceed with a reliable and efficient hardware implementation.

Best regards,
Harinder Singh
