CC3351: SimpleLink CLI BLE TX Issue

Part Number: CC3351
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SIMPLELINK-WIFI-TOOLBOX

Tool/software:

Hello TI,

I am observing inconsistent behavior when transmitting BLE packets using the SimpleLink GUI control and SimpleLink CLI.  When I set up using the SimpleLink GUI (shown below) to transmit on channel 1 at 20 dBm power with infinite packets, no whitening, 10 ms packet interval and advertising data content ZOZO, I am able to decode and obtain close to the correct power using the wireless tester.  The current consumption is measured on our power supply at around 61 mA, which is in line with what is expected.

However, when I use the SimpleLink CLI to issue the commands with the same parameters as shown in the GUI for transmitting BLE packets, I observe inconsistent behavior.  The following commands are issued after loading the firmware and configuration files for the CC3351:

simplelink-wifi-toolbox.exe radio-tool -i XDS110 -param1 LS4209CK plt --on

simplelink-wifi-toolbox.exe radio-tool -i XDS110 -param1 LS4209CK ble packet_tx start --phy_mode LE_1_Mbps --tx_power 20 --channel 1 --no_whitening --packet_number 0 --packet_type ZOZO --packet_length 37 --packet_interval_ms 10 --calibrate

I believe these commands replicate the settings as shown in the GUI.  However, the wireless tester does not recognize what is being transmitted and the current consumption skyrockets to over 220 mA.

Is there something that I might be missing?

Any help would be appreciated.

Edward

  • Hi Edward,

I have assigned this post to one of our HW experts to look into. Please give them some time to dig into this info and provide feedback.

  • Hi Edward,

This is a known issue with the toolbox CLI, and there is already a fix in place for the next toolbox release. The issue was that some packet types do not work as expected in the CLI. I would recommend waiting until the next toolbox release to test this exact command.

For now, you can use packet_type "Hex" and manually input a string of ZOZO data.

You could use this command for example:

simplelink-wifi-toolbox.exe radio-tool -i XDS110 -param1 LS4209CK ble packet_tx start --phy_mode LE_1_Mbps --tx_power 20 --channel 1 --no_whitening --packet_number 0 --packet_type Hex --packet_interval_ms 10 --calibrate --packet_payload "aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa"

    Regards,

    Jonathan
