CC3100: Does the CC3100 Support TLS Versions Above 1.0 for EAP-PEAPv0-MSCHAPv2 and Other EAP Methods?

Part Number: CC3100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3135, CC3120, CC3301

Tool/software:

We are encountering issues connecting our device with the CC3100 to a network using the EAP-PEAPv0-MSCHAPv2 Wi-Fi authentication method. It appears that the network may have disabled support for TLS 1.0 and earlier versions for EAP.

We understand that the CC3100 does not support TLS versions above 1.0 for EAP-TLS authentication. Does this limitation also extend to the EAP-PEAPv0-MSCHAPv2 method and other EAP methods?

Additionally, if we need an alternative to the CC3100 that supports TLS 1.2 and above for EAP authentication, which chip series would you recommend?

Looking forward to your insights.

  • Hi,

TLS 1.2 for EAP security is not supported by CC3100 for any EAP method. Exact same limitation is for newer devices CC3120 and CC3135.

If you need to use EAP security with TLS 1.2 alternative may to be CC3301 devices. But at present time is EAP security for CC3301 supported by Linux host only. That means your main processor need to be capable to run Linux.
