CC3301: TI support for FCC certification

Hello, we are designing a gateway device using the CC3301, TDK DEA162450BT-1295A1 filter, and a custom PCB trace antenna. I understand that as we use a bare chip instead of a module, the FCC certification tests will be more extensive.

Do you have shareable experience on the certification tests required?

Do you think the certification house can use some of your measurements (conducted at least) to reduce the amount of measurements on our device?

Do you have other resources shareable that could help?

I have requested SIMPLELINK-CC33XX-REPORTS, but haven't had an approval yet (waited for a week now). I'm not sure what those reports contain.

    Thanks for reaching out. I have just approved you to access the CC33xx-Reports portfolio. There you can find our reports for BP-CC3351. You can also review here our draft reports for our BP-CC3301 board:

    Please note that these reports are REFERENCE ONLY. Which means you cannot unfortunately leverage these test reports to minimize your testing requirements and time. You must have your test house complete the full extent of necessary testing required by your test house on your system. Please consult with them on what is required. These reports are good to compare to as your test house gathers results from your system. 

    Please also ensure you have taken a good look at our CC33xx Hardware Integration Guide as well as BP-CC33x1 design files, to ensure you are following the proper guidance on your board design/layout. Following this closely will help increase confidence that you will pass regulatory. Lastly, it is recommended to send your design in for review if you have not. Steps to submit this can be found here

    For the vague possibility that the test house could utilize your reports, I would like to know:

    Does the CC3301MOD RF section match your reference design i.e. has the TDK DEA162450BT-1295A1 filter and nothing else? If the RF section differs between our design and your MOD, it is obvious that your test reports don't apply.

    What is the difference between CC33MOD and CC33MOD-DB, both having FCC grants?

    I'm wondering why the BP-CC3351 has a 2.4 GHz RF filter as CC3351 supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi also?

    The CC3301MOD RF section does match the reference design of the IC CC3301 component wise. However the trace length is longer on the IC reference design, therefore would violate CC3301MOD reports. 

    Would a CC3301MOD be easier and more suitable for your design? Or does chip down make the most sense here?

    The difference between CC33MOD and CC33MOD-DB is that CC33MOD is single band 2.4GHz only, meaning only the TDK BPF and matching network can be found on the RF path. CC33MOD-DB is dual band 2.4 and 5 GHz, meaning we have an added diplexer alongside the BPF and matching network on the RF path. This is the reason why they have separate grants.

    BP-CC3351 also has the BPF on the 2.4GHz trace for continued filtering of lower and upper 2.4GHz harmonics
