CC3200: CC3200: WiFi Scan specific SSID

Part Number: CC3200

Hi

I have a CC3200 device and want to scan for a specific SSID, when already connected to that SSID, is that possible?

I have observed that on CC3220, triggeering a scan when having autoconnect policy active with a specific SSID generates SCANs with both broadcasted probe requests and probe requests with the SSID as parameter in the request

However, having same setup on a CC3200 still only generates Brodcastes proberequests, do you know if that's expected and if it possible to scan for that SSID even when connected?

  • Can add that I use SL_LONG_SLEEP_INTERVAL_POLICY policy in both cases

  • Hi T S,

Since this is a Gen 1 device you are asking about, please give me until the end of next week to look into this and get one up and running on my side.

In the meantime, are you able to provide why having the SSID as a parameter in the request is beneficial for your application?

  • Hi Josh,

Thanks reaching back, will wait for the answer. Yes sure, the reason is that I want the devices probing to be detected in a WLAN Controller, and as I see it there is two options, one to use a filter in the controller which filter out all broadcasted probe request and another to not use a filter which include all probe requests and increase the load in the controller. I want to use the first option with my CC3200 device and that's why I asked for this?

  • Hi again

Have you had time to look into this question?

  • Hi ,

I unfortunately have been running into some issues with getting a CC3200 running - I am continuing to debug this today. I'll let you know by the end of today if I'm able to get one running and able to start running some scans.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi

Unfortunately I was unable to get a CC3200 running today, I will try to take a look tomorrow/Monday.

In the meantime, can you help me confirm which SDK versions you are running for CC3200 vs CC3220? If I can't get a device running I can compare the SDKs and confirm the expected behavior for both devices.

    Apologies for the delay here!

  • Hi,

    Using CC3200 SDK v1.2.0 and CC32xx SDK 5.20.00.06

  • Hi  ,

Sincere apologies for the delay here. It has taken me some time to get both a CC3200 and a CC3220 working to run some experiments.

As you mentioned earlier, CC3220 has the functionality to return the SSID of the AP you are connected to in the scan. I also found this functionality in the CC3200 example programs (I needed to pull some functionality together from different examples but was able to get it to work).

So to answer the original question, it seems to be an error on your side that you are unable to see the SSID of the AP you are connected to when you have auto-connect connection policy enabled for your device after doing a scan.

To confirm, can you send the terminal logs for what you are running, and can you provide the examples that you are working with?

    Best Regards,

    Josh Prushing
