SimpleLink: SmartConfig is unreliable

Using firmware 1.11.1 (latest to date) in the CC3000, we find that SmartConfig is unreliable in busy networks. Does anyone have suggestions for making this more reliable? I've noted the information at

and the -75dBi limit talked of at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC3000_Release_Notes#Known_Limitations

Any advice on practical limitations & work arounds would be welcome. The key thing is that failures seem to be associated with busy wifi networks.

BTW: It's also apparent that the relatively new support for WEP security supports ASCII but not Hex keys.

Hi.

For everyone interrested in smartconfig, there is a lot of information about it here: http://depletionregion.blogspot.ch/

Among the info there is explonations why it sometimes doesn't work on 802.11n networks (Depending on MIMO) and why it could be porblematic in busy networks (This is because of how the information is transfered, read more about it in the link).

Regarding WEP hex keys (From paulstoffregen in adafruit forum):

Hi,

Yes, that's correct, CC3000 does not support MIMO. Any smartConfig information sent from MIMO devices will not make the CC3000 to connect to the AP.

However, the manual connection (not SmartConfig) should work with 802.11n APs as they would support b/g as well. This would impact the throughput though.

Hi,

Elsewhere on this forum (http://e2e.ti.com/support/low_power_rf/f/851/t/233233.aspx) there is mention of the CC3100 and we've seen some pre-release information on this. What is not clear is whether the SmartConfig problems that we are facing will be solved with the CC3100 and SmartConfig? Do the additional features of the CC3100 support a more reliable mechanism for SmartConfig?

Any surrounding information on this would be welcome.
