Need Suggestion Regarding WiFi module

Hello,

We want to implement system which have WiFi module with SPI interface and energy consumption measurement functionality. For energy consumption, we are planning to go with MSP430AFE253 micro-controller and TiWi-SL module for WiFi module.

1) Is there any other WiFi module available which is more suitable than TiWi-SL for this application?

2) Is MSP430AFE253 controller suitable to interface with TiWi-SL module?

Any help in this case is appreciate.

Hi Nipam,

Below are the answers:

1) The difference in module should not really matter the power consumption. It should be the same.

2) Interface wise you should be able to interface over the SPI. But you should port the SPI driver for MSP430AFE253.

Actually I forgot to mention that I wanted to measure AC power consumption of Home appliance and send this data over wifi network. AC power consumption will be measured by MSP430AFE253 controller.

Now my query is that TiWi-SL wi-fi module requires as low as 6KB Flash and 3KB RAM for Host controller but MSP430AFE253 controller has only 0.5KB RAM that is not enough for WiFi module stack. Can you please suggest us which microcontroller is suitable for AC power consumption measurement and TiWi-SL wi-fi module SW stack?

Hi Nipam,

Are you looking for MCUs with metering support? Then you can check MSP430F47173 and its series (http://www.ti.com/product/msp430f47173). It also provides interface support of SPI for interfacing CC3000.
