cc3000 patch programming problems

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR5739

Dear TI supporter ,

We try follow the wiki suggestion and load the patch as below(blue word procedure) . But the result is only LED5 turns on, that means the patch on both firmware and driver is not successful to load on the CC3000MOD.

Do you have any idea, what's going wrong from us ?

Thanks

Roderick

Burning the patches to the module is also available with a binary file. In order to burn the patches using executable binary follow these instructions:

MSP-EXP430FR5739

Open Start -> All Programs -> CC3000 Patch Programmer -> MSP430FR5739 -> Download Driver Patches
LED5 and LED8 turn on upon successful completion.
If LED1 turns on as well, it indicates a missing MAC address.

Open Start -> All Programs -> CC3000 Patch Programmer -> MSP430FR5739 -> Download Firmware Patches
LED5 and LED8 turn on upon successful completion.

  • Hi Roderick,

The instructions followed looks correct. How are you using CC3000 MOD with MSP430FR5739 board? Are you using the CC3000 boosterpack?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Raghavendra

  • Hi Raghavendra,

We use our own design PCB with CC3000MOD . We check the SPI connection is correct, the result is only LED5 turns on, that means the patch on both firmware and driver is not successful to load on the CC3000MOD. Is it any version related or something else ? We currently used PatchProgrammerMSP430FR5739-1.11.7.14.24

    Thanks

    Roderick

  • Hi Roderick,

Are you able to find out where exactly the flow is getting stuck? Along with the SPI lines have you also verified the ENABLE line, IRQ, VCC(make sure CC3000 gets enough power), GND etc. ?

I'm asking this because, the standard CC3000MOD with Boosterpack works out of the box with MSP430FR5739 with available patch programmers.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Raghavendra

  • Hi Raghavendra,

The standard CC3000MOD used on our own design PCB, we check that all the SPI line is work or connect correctly. Because we will buy the CC3000MOD only for mass production and we encounter the problem is, it will get stuck on our program but It will work perfect if we replace by CC3000EM or CC3000 boosterpack. We found out the problem is CC3000MOD is empty when out of packing and CC3000EM or CC3000 boosterpack out of box with patch programmers.

Therefore we try to use below instruction to burn the patch into our CC3000MOD. but it never successful on both step below.

    MSP-EXP430FR5739

Open Start -> All Programs -> CC3000 Patch Programmer -> MSP430FR5739 -> Download Driver Patches
LED5 and LED8 turn on upon successful completion.
If LED1 turns on as well, it indicates a missing MAC address.

Open Start -> All Programs -> CC3000 Patch Programmer -> MSP430FR5739 -> Download Firmware Patches
LED5 and LED8 turn on upon successful completion.

PS - attach the CC3000MOD we purchase.

    Thanks

    Roderick

  • Hi Roderick,

In your custom PCB have you connected the following pins of the CC3000:

    • Pin 5 to Pin 7
    • Pin 27 to Pin 28
    • Pin 29 to Pin 30

From the symptoms that you are describing, sounds like you haven't.

  • Hi Ivor,

Yes we do, we connect through 0ohm resistor on these 3 lines.

    Thanks

    Roderick

  • Hi Roderick,

Can you please let us know how you were able to find that CC3000MOD was empty? Are you referring to EEPROM space or the ROM space?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Raghavendra

  • Hi Raghavendra,

We find the issue come from our first lot CC3000MOD. We still finding what's the problem caused this issued (cannot download the patch through patch programmer ?  The new CC3000MOD work okay now.

By the way, Thanks for your advise before.

    Hi Roderick,

How many CC3000MODs did you buy and what percentage of them were bad? Will TI replace the bad ones for free?

  • Hi Ivor,

We re still finding the root caused and we do not contact our distributor at this moment. Will update here if we have anything finding.

    Thanks
