CC3000 Antenna problem!

Hi All !

I have major problem here!

Ive bought this chip cc3000:     https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12820

Ive tried to solder every pin with a solder pasta. All pins did solder perfectly except this pin 35.!!! the whole copper pad just ripped off , and i dont know what to do. If you look at the data sheet page 12

its the antenna pin.! Is there another way to place the antenna on this chip cc3000? Please help me i have to finish this before monday, deadline is on monday !

  • Hi Phil,

    what deadline do you have? What must be finished at the deadline? What do you already have?

    I assume you are currently building your hardware and have not yet started with software?

    Even without Antenna, you can try to get software up and running.

    Ok, this is perhaps then limited to communication with CC3000 (startup, patching, trying to connect to AP, ...), perhaps not with an access point (AP).

    Where are you located? Perhaps someone near you has some spare CC3000?

    If this is for a school project (and it sound a lot like it is), you can still connect to a router if you place it right next to the CC3000. Whatever is left from pad 35 will work as an antenna, provided that it is not soldered to or touching something else. Just place your router as close as physically possible and make sure it is facing the bottom side of the CC3000.

    I just want to say thnx for all the good advice you guys are giving me. Now that i looked more into it , it wasnt the antenna pin pad that ripped off , it was pin 36 that ripped of which is the GND pin. Im really really sorry for that. 

    Ive tried to test the chip using a 3V small circle battery. Cant find the cc3000 wifi network. 

    So i looked more into it and the problem is when im using a voltmeter from pin 35 (antenna) and to any groundpin it seems that pin 35 is short circuit to GND. It comes a beep sound on the voltmeter. Pin 35 shouldnt be shortcircuied to GND  like that . help ???

    I have checked the soldering and everything seems to be correct soldered. :(

    The CC3000 is not a device that you can simply power up and see as a WiFi Access Point. I wish it was! It cannot be even configured as an AP. You can only use it to connect to other APs.

    Btw, beep is normal between the antenna pin and ground, but I am not sure it is a good idea to test it with a voltmeter like that. (I tested it on one of my bad CC3000 chips.)
