Hi,

What exactly does the CC3200 Service Pack for or do.

At Uniflash Guide this below is mentioned about CC3200 Service Pack. So does the CC3200 Service Pack function as a bootloader? Also if going to use a much recent SDK version, I would need to format my Serial Flash then I would need to update the Service Pack of my CC3200 launchpad to the latest version also?

"Service pack is a common name for the image required for updating the device (either upgrade or downgrade the device). The service pack is a single file containing images for all flavors of the device, regardless if it is CC3100/CC3200 or ROM/Flash device. "

It replaces the NWP's (Network Processor Subsystem) firmware, that is either running from the ROM or a previous service pack file.

When you format, you still have the version that is on the NWP's ROM, the service pack will replace this with one stored on the serial flash.

As for what is included in the service pack, I could only find release notes for the SDK and not the service pack - http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC32xx_Release_Notes

Hi,

As suggested by Glenn, a base NWP version exists on ROM. If no Service Pack exists on the serial flash, then the ROM base version is used. The Service Pack itself contains bug fixes/other enhancements on top of this base version. You can look at it as a set of SW patches on top of the base version.

If you applied the procedure of formatting the serial flash and programming the Service Pack before, there is no need to reformat. Just apply the new Service Pack. The reason that a format is required at least once before 1st Service Pack programming is becasue this file is created with preallocated flags/size by Uniflash (e.g. so a future Service Pack that most likely exceed the previous size would not fail fitting into the preallocated space).

Hi,

Will it be a true to say that:
If I use OTA and replace the service pack file "servicepack.ucf" and reboot, will the NWP run the latest service pack from ROM?

Hi,

Is there a relation between the FW version and the Service Pack version?
The latest Service Pack is 1.0.1.11-2.9.0.0. I would like to know which service pack is actually on the CC3100 before I flashing it.

Hi Itay,

ServicePack is a patch for CC3100/CC3200 firmware. Inside ServicePack package you find release notes which contains information about versions, e.g. for 1.0.1.11-2.9.0.0:

NWP 2.9.0.0
MAC 1.4.0.1
PHY 1.0.3.37

... btw. in bootlaoder mode you cannot read ServicePack version.

So I understand that the 4 last numbers of the Service Pack filename represents as NWP.
What about the 4 first numbers?

And, is there an option to read the Service Pack using UniFlash?

First numbers are host driver version (see SL_MAJOR_VERSION_NUM, SL_MINOR_VERSION_NUM, SL_VERSION_NUM, SL_SUB_VERSION_NUM macros in simplelink.h file).

No. Using Uniflash you cannot read Service Pack version.
