Unable to connect to cc3200 ACK error

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200, UNIFLASH, ENERGIA

My cc3200 suddenly stopped working, I was using it beforehand just fine when randomly the device became unable to program.  The error message I get is unable to connect to ACK.

So I have been trying to use uniflash to apply servicepack_1.0.0.1.1.bin, but this is the error message I receive:

Can anyone help me out with the next steps I should take here? Sort of new to this.

Info: D5 and D6 (green and orange) LEDs are on.  The orange LED D1 is on, it turns off when the reset button is pressed, and finally the red D4 power LED is on.

  • Hi,

Did it happen the first time you programmed the 1.0.0.1.1 SP or did you use this version for some time before it happend?

    Ben

  • Well actually the first time I tried doing this I got the same error, but I went ahead and tried to program the MSP and it worked, so I forgot about this.  I did use this version when I was trying it the first time though.

If it helps, I am using Energia to program it, which requires connecting the top J8 pin to the bottom SOP2 pin.  I followed the guide from their website to set up the launch pad here: http://energia.nu/cc3200guide/

I just restored my computer back a few days to before I first plugged in the cc3200, and I am going to restart everything, hopefully it will be good to go from there.

Edit: Getting the same results after the restore, I am not sure how it was ever working the first time at this point.  Is there any sort of factory reset on the launchpad?

The green LED D2 is on as well.

  • Hi Kyle,

Are you able to debug any example program using CCS at your CC3200 Launchpad.

When using Uniflash close any serial terminal that uses the same com port as your CC3200 launchpad.

  • I could try using IAR, but if I cannot even check the version or apply a service pack update I don't see why I would be able to.

  • Hi Kyle,

There is some issue with using Uniflash when a serial console like Tera Term is connected to the same COM port as your CC3200 Launchpad..

So, if you have both Uniflash and a Serial Console open, close both program and then just open Uniflash. Power Cycle your CC3200 Launchpad then try to program again.

You should be able to debug the example programs that does not connect to wifi like blinky, without updating service pack.

  • Ok, I will try to load some simple code.

I do not believe  have any other devices on this COM port.

  • Since I wasn't using IAR before, I followed the

    CC3200 SimpleLink™ Wi-Fi® and IoT Solution
With MCU LaunchPad™ Getting Started Guide

    found here: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swru376a/swru376a.pdf

When I try to download and debug the code (it compiles with 0 errors) I get an error saying JTAG initialization failed.

I have the launchpad configured in the same way as my original post, except now the green LED D2 is on, unsure why.

I did install the drivers as well for the cc3200.

    Any Ideas?

I am going to try to load some simple code that doesn't use wifi next.

Edit: same error with the blinky example, compiles fine but same JTAG error.  Going to try CCS...

  • Getting connection errors with CSS now too.

    console: (wlan_station)

    Cortex_M4_0: GEL Output:
    Memory Map Initialization Complete
Cortex_M4_0: Error connecting to the target

    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Hi,

Just wait for a TI Engineer to reply. If your CC3200 launchpad is defective, luckily, they will offer you a replacement CC3200 Launchpad.

  • Hi Kyle,

Just to make sure, you mentioned removing J8 as a work around using Energia. This jumper is related to JTAG and should be connected back when using IAR/CCS in debug mode since JTAG is used. The error message does seem to be related to JTAG.

Please verify and let me know if you can work with IAR/CCS and whether it is just Uniflash that is not able to connect to the target.

  • When using IAR and CSS I am using the launchpad with the configuration below:

I put blue squares around the connected pins to make it easier to see.  Both SOP2 and J8 are connected.

  • and are you able to debug and work with the device this way? Is it only Uniflash that is not working?

  • I get the JTAG error in IAR with this configuration and an "unable to connect to device" error with CSS.

  • So in this case, most likely your device got defected somehow.

Do you have a substitude device? in any case, the defective device can be replaced.

TI representative would contact you offline for next steps.

    Meanwhile, I'm closing this thread.

Can you provide an Email address in case it is not already in our system?

  • Unfortunately I do not have another cc3200 device, but I am using my old f5529 with cc3000 for testing purposes for my project currently.

I can be contacted at kyle.rump@ttu.edu

  • I have the same problem as Kyle. Could you suggest me a solution? I connected J8 jumper but it doesn't work.
