CC3100 broadcast / multicast abilities

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3100

Hello!

one part of the expiriment that i want to conduct is the propogation of information from one cc3100 to other cc3100 units which are stations at the same network.

i woulkd like to understand the following things:

1. doesthe CC3100 has the ability to broadcast / multicast information as a member of a LAN?

2. if the anwser is "yes" what are the limitations of such broadcast?

3. if the anwser is "no" what are my alternetives?

thanx alot!

  • Hi Yuri,

    1. CC3100 has the ability to multicast packets. I'm assuming you are referring to UDP multicasting.
which broadcast are you referring to? IP? It isn't really used anymore. IP multicast addressing replaces broadcast addressing as implemented in IPv4.
    2. I'm not sure what do you mean by limitation, can you please elaborate?

In general, it would be helpful to understand the use case or scenario you are looking into, as it is a bit hard to answer on such question in  a generic manner.
Sometimes there are different option or capabilities of C3100 that can be put into use, which are not considered when just asking a high level question.

    Thanks,
    Alon
