Launchpad Case

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

I realize this is not the proper forum, but perhaps someone can steer me in the right direction.

We have a cc3200 Launchpad based product about to go live.

Can anyone recommend a decent case for the Launchpad or put us in touch with a rep?

Thanks,

Bob Roth

  • Hi,

Maybe you can buy a plastic case that you would just need to modify for CC3200 Launchpad.

But, most probably the best way is to make a custom case design for your CC3200 launchpad.

  • Hi Bob,
You can make a case for the Launchpad, and have it 3D printed. You can get one for easy prototyping. look at the makerbot community http://www.makerbot.com/
  • Thanks Beatrice!

I've been looking for an excuse to buy a 3D printer and you just gave me a good one!

Also, the cc3200 is the most exciting product I've been lucky enough to work on in years.  Thank you Ti.

  • Thanks Kel,

I tried that and it looked like #$^&.

I purchased a CubePro Duo and will try to make it myself.  Should be delivered today.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Bob,

Lucky you! This will make life easy.....and fun!

It would be great for you to share your 3D model that fits the LaunchPad with everyone here.

If you can build and share as a STL format, we can then use a 3D printing service like Seed Studios - http://www.seeedstudio.com/service/index.php?r=st/3d

  • Hi Glenn.

Will do.  Look for more info on this thread.

  • Thanks Bob!

Can you tell us anything about this CC3200 LaunchPad based product you are about to release?

    Glenn.
  • Hi Glenn!
The product is called Pink Link. It is released through my wife’s company Pink Leopard Software.

At a high level it works as a tool for student retention on college campuses. It is part of a complex system of two Windows services, a complete UI in Windows, a complex SQL Server setup and of course a bunch of the 3200’s.

What the 3200 does is passively (no app on the phone or action required from the student) track a students’ movement through their phones as they move between Wi-Fi access points on a college campus. At a low level it uses the 3200 as an access point, using the http server for setup, and then the address resolution protocol in station mode to inventory the users of the access point periodically. It then reports back to our Windows server for further analysis.

We now can passively tell where and when a student uses a facility, class room, library, sporting event…, covered by each Pink Link.

I truly feel that the CC3200 is the most interesting project I have ever worked with. Of course it can be frustrating. Inadequate documentation and all the quirkiness that comes with a new embedded system can be challenging, but I feel this is a game changing product for many industries.
    Thanks,

  • Hi Bob,

Very innovative use of the CC3200 LaunchPad. I am assuming it was selected as you will have many of these CC3200 spread over the campus, so there will be significant cost saving over say a Raspberry Pi or BBB, especially when you develop a custom board for the job (I do know where you can obtain such a unit for $15 a piece - http://www.smartwebee.com/product/view/42).

If you could migrate the SQL server and Reporting UI to the Cloud as a SaaS based model on say Azure, you could reduce costs even further and decrease implementation time massively. In fact, all you would need to do then is sell the CC3200 units and allow Campus IT to install where they would like. To get an idea on how you could do this, check out my IoT example (link in my sig below).

    Glenn.

  • Hi Glenn,

Very interesting.  I like the saas idea.

The board sounds interesting also, but with the Launchpad available for $30 it is such an insignificant part of our package there's really no need to change.

    Thanks,
