Emulator for CC3200

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200, CC3100, UNIFLASH

Dear All,

We are using CC3200 in one of our project.

I would like to know which emulator we can use to debug and program the internal cortex M4 core. I have came across suggestions to use XDS100v2 emulator which support ARM Cortex M4 core device. Does it really work?

Could any one confirm who used xds100v2 with the CC3200 JTAG/SWD

Thanks in advance

Anand M

  • My understanding is that you could us the XDS100 for Debugging with Code Composure Studio (or other IDE). But for Programming you will need to use a FTDI connection in conjunction with UniFlash for the CC3100/CC3200, as this will write the binary to the serial flash (search this forum, as this has been discussed a in a few threads, key words Production, FTDI, UART, Serial Flash). But effectively you can use a CC3200 LaunchPad to do this, or perhaps one of the FTDI TTL cables. There was also talk about providing support for Gang programming.

    So in summary:-

    Debugging: XDS100 Emulator (or better)
Programming: Modified CC3200 LaunchPad or CC3100 EMU Board or FTDI TTL Cable (though not verified)
Mass Programming: Serial Flash Gang Programmer (Need to check with TI on the status for support regarding this)

  • Hi Glenn Vassallo

    Thanks for the response.
I understand that either I can use the TI CC3200 launch pad and use the UART headers to flash the code in to serial flash over FTDI or as discussed in the post http://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/f/968/p/353805/1251290#1251290, I need to take out the UART1 TX/RX, nRESET and SOP2 and using uniflash load the application code to sFlash through FTDI driver.
And as mentioned in the post http://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/f/968/p/353805/1251290#1251290, could you share me the link to download the SimpleLink Programmr software tool?
Is there any possibility that I can use UART to RS232 and send the microcontroller application binary to the serial flash using uniflash.
Looking forward to hear from you soon.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Here is the UniFlash version you need -

I doubt it....as you will need to interface with the Computer/UniFlash with the FTDI USB device class to make things work (It will viewed as a COM Port), so this requires a FTDI chip somewhere. Here is a list of FTDI TTL Cables....just not sure which of these you would need -

    Glenn.

  • Thanks for the response Glenn.

    Anand,
