Wireless communications for the OMAP35evm rev d

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: WL1271, OMAP3530

Hi!

My name is Fabian, i am developing  applications with the OMAP 3530 evm in the National Polytechnic Institute, from Mexico city, i have the Rev. D OMAPEVM, i want connectivity  from my OMAP to wireless networks  (i think that some cards or modems exist) such as wifi & gprs.

I saw that the  WL1271 Daughter card  does not work  with  the Rev. D OMAPEVM, it  only works for the Rev. G EVM, do you know about an option for my OMAP Rev. D?

Also,  i have been  reading  about modems to get the connectivity to cellular networks, can i use  the NaviLink Solution? or what kind of modem  can i use to get the connectivity?

Well, that's, i'll be grateful with you.

  • Hi Fabian,

The reason why the WL1271 daughter card is not supported on the RevD is because the RevD EVM used an older version of OMAP silicon.  If you have a RevD EVM, you may still be able to use the WL1271 daughter card if you have or buy an OMAP3530 processor board RevC from Mistral (http://www.mistralsolutions.com/products/omap_3_processor-module.php).  Or you simply have to upgrade your EVM to RevG which is the recommended path.

The Navilink solution unfortunately is not available for the EVM yet.  Third party suppliers may have other modem modules that you may be able to plug into the board but it will probably take some effort rather than being plug-and-play.
