SmartConfig connects (LED on Launchpad turns on), but phone app does not detect device

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200

Hi all --

I am running the provisioning_smartconfig demo in debug mode in Code Composer Studio, on a CC3200 Launchpad.

On my Android phone, if I run the SimpleLink app, the red LED on the Launchpad will turn on after a few seconds. This is consistent.  On the router, you can see the Launchpad as an unknown device, and you can ping it, so I believe it has successfully connected to the network.

However, in all the times I've run the program over the past few days, the phone app will always show the message that there were no devices found.

Have other people had success in seeing their device on their phone?

With an iPhone running the app, the red LED on the Launchpad never turns on, if that gives a clue as to what's going on.

  • If you are using the SimpleLink App that is available in the App Store or Google Play and you do not see anything in the Devices tab of the app, then I would suspect it is not connecting. Another way to look at things is to use the Fing app, and then look for the Texas Instruments device....you can also use a mDSN browser to see if the device is advertising its self

  • Hi,

As Glenn mentioned, looks like the connection with the AP is not successful. Did you change the AP or the configuring smart phone?

  • I was able to login to the router and see the device, as well as ping it.

I also downloaded the Fing app as you recommended, and I am also able to see the device there, as a Texas Instruments device.

It seems like for some people the Launchpad and SmartConfig just works exactly as it is advertised, whereas for others it does not!

My next guess is that there are settings on my router that I need to set differently.  I am currently using default settings. The other guess is that the wifi congestion (I can see > 10 wifi routers from where I sit) is somehow a contributing factor.

In either case, though, if anyone else encounters the same issue, please let me know how you resolve it!

  • Hi Yoo Hsiu Yeh,

The Simplelink advertising after Smart Config is using the mDNS protocol. It is know to some devices that such advertising is not working properly. However, there are several workarounds to make sure the device is connected:

    • Use the Bonjour or ZeroConf browser app from app store.
    • If you know the IP address of the Simplelink device in the AP settings, use a web browser to access the webpage of the device. You should see a simple webpage.
