WEP with wrong password gets connected

Hi,

I have configured an AP with WEP security. I am trying to connect using an incorrect WEP password. The authentication gets successful. But it does not get the IP address. How to make the connection to fail when wrong password is entered with WEP.

Regards,

Johncy.

  • Hi Johncy,

When connection in WEP there are two options:
Shared Authentication - Not recommended at all as the KEY exchange is done on not encrypted frames and simple sniffer can show you the key
Open Authentication - No key exchange, and each side will use the key provided for encryption/decryption

In general WEP is not recommended security method, and does not supported by the WIFI Alliance any more
More than that, almost no device is using the Shared Authentication due to the limitation I provided above,

And as said, WEP Open will not have any key exchange, there for the connection will be success, but the traffic will fail, exactly as you see

    Thanks

    Shahar
