Hi,

We are burning the flash with our application .bin file using UniFlash tool. The size we use in UniFlash is 0.

This application creates a new configuration file, during run-time, using the file-system API.

How will an upgrade action, burning a new .bin file with UniFlash, affect this file arrangement. Is there a risk the configuration file get corrupted?

I ask because we had a case just like this, where we burned a new bin file, with a very minor change, and after that the configuration was corrupt.

There is always a risk that either the new .bin file is corrupted or the flashing itself is corrupted.

If you want ot make it robust and fail-safe, I suggest you refer to OTA add-on and use the code as reference.

You gave a very general answer.

More specifically, assuming the UniFlash completes burning procedure OK, is there still a risk the file-system is changed/corrupt? What does UniFlash actually do in terms of the file-system/image? Does it operate on the existing FS, or does it "reset" the FS?

How does changing the "Max Size" property affect the burning procedure?

Moshe,

Format should be done only once. Format actually creates the file system (i.e. the FAT).

Programming operation creates files on the formatted file system according to your settings. If you check the 'verify' option, it also reads back the entire file and compare it byte-by-byte so there is no chance the file iscorrupted. Even without the 'verify', if programming is successful, I don't see an option that the file is corrupted. "Max size" is set only once during file creation. ou cannot change the size without creating the file all over again. This size is the maximum allocated file size (i.e. you cannot extend the size without creating it again).

The .bin file will grow between burning UniFlash operations (upgrades).
Do I have to pre-determine the future max file size, or will the UniFlash utility move the file to handle this case?

Size is allocated on creation only.

As long as you use Uniflash, there is no issue.

You can always check the 'erase' and 'update'. The file would be erased and then created with the new image.

Anything I'm missing?

Shlomi,

So if we go back to the original question, assuming there was no error during burning using UniFlash, any other file which was existing before, should remain in tact? Again, this is a configuration file created by the our FW application during run time.

Your understanding is correct.

An existing file created by your application should remain if you haven't erased it yourself or formatted the device again.
