cc3200 & Linux

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200, CC3100

Hi all,

I have a LAUNCHPAD cc3200 development board. My idea is to use the cc3200 WiFi chip as the wifi module of my system that are running Linux (like a wlanX interface). Actually the cc3200 is recognized as UART port, but I would like to use it also as network device (a new entry in ifconfig table).

All the guide founded show me how to create or manage an application running on the cc3200 ARM processor and connecting it to the internet. I have found nothing about use the cc3200 directly from a Linux system to achieve the wireless connectivity of the O.S.

Questions:

- is it possibile ?

- there are same how-to or guide to do this ?

Thanks for your help.

Best Regars.

  • Hi,

From what I understand, what you want to do is beyond the capability of CC3200.

Maybe a Beaglebone Black running under Linux + CC3100 Booster Pack, is similiar to what you want to do. The CC3100 will provide the wifi connectivity.

  • Hi Alessandro,

As Markel commented, the CC3100 would be a more obvious choice, although we don't have an official Linux reference for it.
However, there are such references out there, done by different community members.

If you wish to use the CC3200, I would suggest that you will look at the "serial wifi" example code, located in the CC3200 SDK.
It exposes a UART API to the networking element that can be use by an external processor.

    Thanks,
