CC3100 - TCXO and low power modes

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3100

Hi,

I'm designing a board based on the CC3100 transceiver.

I'm going to use a TCXO instead of a quartz crystal (*).

The TCXO doesn't have the enable pin, therefore the CC3100 chip can't turn the TCXO off.

Question

What happens if I put, by software, the CC3100 chip into a low power mode and the TCXO remains operating?

Thanks,

Enrico Migliore

(*) I got my own reason.

  • Hi,

can anyone please answer my 2 questions on the CC3100 transceiver?

    Question 1
Can I use a TCXO instead of a crystal?

    Question 2
If I use a TCXO, what happens when I put to sleep the CC3100 transceiver and the TCXO remains operating?

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Enrico,

We do support the TCXO configuration along with the TCXO_EN signal. Please refer to the datasheet for the the configuration to use TCXO and the specs required.

If you don't want to use the TCXO_EN option you can keep the TCXO running while putting CC3100 to sleep. It would only be additional current that the TCXO would take.
