WiLink 8 module - BT stack for iAP2 (MFI)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3352

Hi ,

We are using WiLink8 module in one of our designs.
We would like to know if there is readily available BT iAP2 stack to communicate with the iOS for this module.
If not, is there any alternate WiFi+BT modules from TI for which iAP2 stack is available ?

Please suggest.

Thanks,
Suresha N S

  • Hi Suresha,

A part of the Bluetopia PM stack that support WiLink (www.ti.com/.../TI-BT-STACK_LINUX-ADDON), we support the IAP2 protocol.
Which platform are you using? Which OS?

    Regards,
    Gigi Joseph.
  • Hi Gigi,

    Thanks for your response.

We are working on AM3352 based system with Linux SDK package - AMSDK 7.0 with kernel 3.12 running on it.
We are currently using BlueZ version 5.29 for BLE communication.

We need couple of clarifications on the BT stack:

    1) We are planning for Apple authentication as well as accessing the apple device over External Accessory Protocol using iAP2 protocol.
Does this stack support only iAP2 protocol or does it also has support for authentication & External Accessory protocol over iAP2 ?

    2) Also, there is a requirement for us to use WiLink8 in dual mode i.e. Classical BT + BLE modes.
We refered to the this link with respect to BT Dual mode support.
We want to have some file transfer (such as audio) over classical BT while parallely having some control information communication over BLE.
Thus we need to have both BT & BLE active together at any point of time. Is this possible ?

    Looking forward to your response.

    Thanks,
    Suresha N S

  • Hi Suresha,

We support the IAP2 protocol over Bluetooth SPP , and a part of this include the authentication & External Accessory protocol over iAP2.

    Gigi Joseph.
  • Hi Gigi,

    Thanks for your response.

Currently we are designing a system which is communicating to iPhone through BLE of WiLink8 module.

We want to transfer audio (both play & record) over BT along with the existing communication through BLE.
BLE communication includes control such as start / stop of the audio.

Do you see any issues with the co-existence of BT & BLE in above use case ?

We are planning to use either A2DP or SPP profiles for BT audio.
You have suggested that iAP2 is supported over SPP.
Do we have to use iAP2 even if we are using A2DP for audio transfer to iPhone ?

    Thanks,
    Suresha N S

  • Hן Suresha,

If you are planning to run BLE + A2DP there is not need to use MFI ( iAP2) since iOS doesn't require MFI if you are using BLE.

There shouldn't be any problem to run A2DP and BLE from co existence prospective.

    Thanks,
